Meeting held at the State Security Service with the leaders of the International Commission on Missing Persons
On 4th
April, 2022 the Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages
and Missing Persons Ali Naghiyev received the Director General of International
Commission on Missing Persons Mrs. Kathryne Bomberger and the Director for
Policy and Cooperation Andreas Kleiser, who were on an official visit to our
country.
Chairman
of the State Comission Ali Naghiyev informed the guests that on the
instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, urgent measures have been taken to
search for Azerbaijani citizens who went missing during the first and second
Karabakh wars, the exhumation of the unknown graves and the identification of human
remains.
The
Chairman of the Commission highly
appreciated the decision of the International Commission on Missing Persons,
which has extensive experience, human resources and technical capabilities in
search for missing persons, exhumation and identification of remains in a
number of war zones and natural
disasters sites around the world, to cooperate with our respective state
commission, expressed his gratitude and firm belief and hope that this would
put an end to the expectations of the families who have been unable to obtain
any information about their mission relatives for nearly 30 years.
Expressing
satisfaction with the visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan and the high level
reception, Kathryne Bomberger said that the organization she heads was
established in 1996 and in 2014 received the status of an international
organization, stressing that the organization was ready to cooperate with the
parties to determine the fate of those missing people in the armed conflict in
the region, and would work to end the sufferings of families who lost their
loved ones.
Then
Mr. Ali Naghiyev and Director General of International Commission on Missing
Persons Kathryne Bomberger signed a Protocol on Cooperation in the field of
exhumation of graves and identification of remains.
After the signing ceremony, the
leadership of the International Commission on Missing People met with a group
of families of missing people and answered their questions.
