An Azerbaijani citizen who joined illegal armed groups was arrested

The State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues complex operational-investigative measures on fighting of international terrorism.

As a result of the investigations a reasonable grounds were established that, Shikhiyev Bakhtiyar Sattarkhan oglu, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, born in 1989, with the purpose of participation in armed conflicts based on the religious hatred, radicalism and fanatism and accompanied by the committing of terrorist acts outside of the country, on numerous counts underwent a special military training in Rifil-muhandis settlement of the Syrian Arab Republic, and after mastering the control of various firearms took part in the activities of the illegal armed group called “Jundul Sham”.

Bakhtiyar Shikhiyev was detained as a suspect in the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service and charged with the Article 283-1.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (creating stable groups for the purpose of participating in armed conflicts outside the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participating in such groups, training or armed conflicts) was brought to criminal responsibility as a person, a pretrial detention measure was chosen for him by the court's decision. At the moment, investigations into the criminal case are underway.
