Information of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons

The Chief of SSS met with the Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons.

On March 10, the Chief of the State Security Service, Chairman of the State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons (Commission) Mr. Ali Naghiyev received the Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) Ms. Catherine Bomberger.

The parties positively assessed the joint activities carried out after the meeting held in April 2022 to find our citizens who went missing as a result of Armenia's military aggression.

The Chairman of the State Commission Mr. Ali Naghiyev, spoke in detail about the urgent measures being undertaken to implement the tasks set before the Commission regarding the issue of searching for our missing compatriots, which is constantly in the spotlight of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the work being done to identify and exhume the graves of persons who went missing as a result of the Karabakh conflict and identify the remains of the bodies found. The Chief of the Service also stated that Armenia does not intend to cooperate in the field of clarifying the fate of missing persons and is still demonstrating an unconstructive position.

The Chairman of the Commission Mr. Ali Naghiyev also expressed his views on the report reflecting the possibilities of searching for missing persons prepared by the Assessment mission of the ICMP and submitted to the Azerbaijani side and expressed gratitude for the support provided by the ICMP organization to the work of the State Commission.

Ms. Katrin Bomberger, in turn, touched upon the importance of the report, prepared by the ICMP, which she heads, and expressed her deep belief that significant work has been done within the framework of mutual activities with the Commission and that substanntial contributions shall be made to the future development of inter-commission relations through joint efforts.

Other issues of common interest related to the early clarification of the fate of missing persons were also widely discussed at the meeting.
